Yancy Quitman Brizendine

Yancy was listed as a detective in the 1930 census.
Yancy was a sheriff in Sour Lake, TX. My father told me the story of how his grandfather was taking a prisoner to the jail in Kountze when a mob of men overtook him and hung his prisoner by an old grader right outside of Sour Lake.

My grandparents

Lester Colley Brizendine was born to Yancy Quitman Brizendine and Birdie Irene Manning Brizendine on
5  April 1902 and died on 17 October 1958, he was only 56 years old. Colley was married to Mildred Thelma Martin Brizendine.
Mildred was the 4th daughter of George Washington Martin and Hettie Isabelle Shaffner Martin. The Martin's were married on 4 November 1887.The Martin's lived in Temple, TX and then in 1902 moved to Sour Lake, TX. Minnie, Maude, May, and Mildred were their daughters. They lost two sons at birth or close to it, Marvin and Milton. Mildred was the youngest and she weighed only 1 lb. when she was born.
Mildred was born on 25 June 1907 and died 28 June 1963. Colley and Mildred had two sons. Colley was a master wall paper hanger and painter. He and his wife Mildred are buried in Pine Ridge Cemetary in Hardin Co. Texas. Colley and Mildred were my grandparents and I am going to try and piece some of our family history together. I never met my grandparents but I would like to perserve their heritage.
